Pati is a 100% self-taught mixed-media artist. Drawn to process, color, and line, Pati started making art in the 90’s when she was paralyzed with writer’s block. Since then, she has poured her energy into making art as both a creative and emotional outlet. She usually works on her iPad Pro or in one of her many art journals, journals that have been bound from scratch or that she has constructed by re-purposing old books.

In 2013 Pati completed her degree in English Literature at San Francisco State University where she studied under amazing professors like Michael Krasny (KQED Forum) and has workshopped with the very talented writers and poets: J. Ruth Gendler, Kim Addonizio, and Dorianne Laux. So you might say Pati is a writer who likes to make art and an artist who likes to write. “The emotional world is tightly woven with our creative world,” says Pati, “and I sometimes find that language is an inadequate form of expression but, at other times, nothing works for me like the written word.”

In addition to her art practice, Pati enjoys working one-on-one with children on art journaling and creativity. She believes that art is inherent in each child and is a vital part of learning - both emotional and academic. So often kids just stop creating, and then the negative ‘I can’t draw’ messages kick in. For Pati, it’s not just about art, and it’s not just about writing, it’s about finding the sweet spot in materials and forms of expression and fostering the creative force within each student.
